A field in Għajnsielem has been turned into a makeshift bicycle pump track to help children in the area learn a new sport.

Sports remains a top priority for the local council of Għajnsielem who, together with local BMX group Goodcleanfun, set out to build the pump track over the weekend.

“This track will cater riders of all ages and levels of skills and although it is a temporary one until we start work on the new Community Centre, we aim to give our youths and children an opportunity to learn a new sport,” said Mayor Kevin Cauchi.

The track, which is located behind the local band club, has already been put to good use with youths taking to its bends and curves for an initial test run.

Although the joint effort is only a temporary solution, it provides young BMXers with the opportunity to practice the sport on Gozo, that is until a community centre is erected with a more permanent solution.

Moreover, the local council has also committed to offering professional classes amongst other things.
