Strong Performances Earn Malta’s Synchro Knights Top Medals In Hungary
In a showcase of elegance, precision, and determination, Malta’s artistic swimming club Synchro Knights delivered an outstanding performance at the prestigious Hungarian Cup held in early November.
The athletes competed against high-level artistic swimmers from several European nations, accompanied by Head Coach Jeremy Farrugia and Artistic and Technical Coordinator Laura Marquez Urrego.
18-year-old Emily Ruggier achieved a remarkable victory, securing first place in the Senior Women Free Solo category with an exceptional routine that earned her the gold medal. Emily continued her success by also taking silver in the Junior Women Free Solo category. In the same event, 21-year-old Valentina Marchi added to the club’s achievements by placing second, claiming another silver medal, further highlighting the depth of talent within the Synchro Knights team.
Both athletes have consistently demonstrated strong dedication to the sport. Under Laura’s guidance, Emily, Valentina, and their teammates are now pushing their limits, embracing higher technical difficulty, and performing original choreography created by their coach, known for her impressive artistic vision.
These accomplishments are contributing to growing interest in artistic swimming in Malta, where the combination of swimming, dance, and gymnastics is attracting new audiences. As the only club in Malta dedicated specifically to this discipline, Synchro Knights now includes over 80 athletes and 10 coaches. Its teams range from Novice swimmers starting at age 5, to competitive squads for athletes 10 and above, as well as a Masters team for those aged 20 and above.
“These medals represent more than just wins for our athletes – they are a message of inspiration for Malta’s upcoming artistic swimmers,” said Club President Claire Blake. “It is wonderful to see artistic swimming growing in popularity locally, thanks in large part to the continuous support of our committee and coaching team.”
Those wishing to try the sport will have the chance to do so during the Synchro Knights Open Day taking place this coming January at the modern heated pool located within the Ta’ Qali complex. The event invites children and youths to get in the water, experience the sport, and potentially join the club to continue training.
Congratulations to the athletes!
