Super Steve Martin: Martin Reigns Victorious Over Scott Dixon At Fight Island
The biggest and most anticipated boxing event in Malta, Fight Island, kept its attendees well entertained and on their toes all night, and we’re glad we got an inside look.
From the well-awaited Dixon vs Martin fight, to the two debut fights of Scott and Andriy, Fight Island brought the heat, resolved the tension, and gave us something to look forward to all night.
Bulletproof’s Scott Schembri took the Maltese boxing scene by surprise back in January, when he announced that he’d be training to become a pro boxer in one year as part of their ‘Project 360’. This received major backlash from the Maltese boxing community, especially from well-known world championship title holder Steve Martin. Schembri then announced that one of his coaches will be none other than Scott Dixon, Steve Martin’s former coach.
While Martin took to social media to mock Schembri for his decision, he later agreed to take part in Fight Island and go up against Dixon, becoming the most anticipated fight of the night. With tensions high, the two threw shade at each other at the weigh-in, increasing the hype for their fight.
Dixon , however, didn’t show up to the face off a couple weeks before.
“Maybe he has some excuses, let’s see what he comes up with. I didn’t know he had anything against me – until a couple months ago he was asking me for favours,” stated Martin. Dixon is now “dead” to him, he said.
The 12 rounds of the Martin vs Dixon fight kept everyone at the edge of their seats, fighting neck and neck for the win. While Martin seemed to dominate the first half of the fight, Dixon’s pace allowed him to rank up the second half, illustrating more energy. Both fighters fell over multiple times, and received support from their team who chanted them on from the crowd.
Once the 12 rounds were up, ‘Super Steve Martin’ was crowned the winner, and proceeded to celebrate the win with his team.
