Team Malta Kicks Off Prestigious Davis Cup With A Smashing Win

Matthew Asciak, Omar Sudzuka, Denzil Aguis and Matthew Cassar Torregiani are currently representing Team Malta at the Davis Cup in San Marino… and they were off to a great start.
The Davis Cup is a prestigious international team event in men’s tennis and is contested annually between teams from competing countries.
Team Malta got off to a promising start yesterday when Matthew Asciak won his match against Jesus Muro-Loscertales, from Andorra, 4-1 (retirement). The remaining matches were postponed until today after rain delays.
This morning, Matthew Cassar Torregiani was on the receiving end of Malta’s first loss, falling 6-2, 6-3 to Andorra’s Pablo Ricardo Rodeiro-Stetson. The live results were broadcast here.
Team Malta also emerged victorious in their doubles matchup, when Asciak and Sudzuka beat Eric Cervos Noguer, and Pablo Ricardo Rodeiro-Stetson, 6-4 6-3.
Malta finish the day with a 2:1 win over Andorra.
Malta is competing in Group IV of the Europe/Africa category, where they will face Ireland, San Marino and Kosovo throughout the week.
