The Malta Employees Sport Association (MESA) proudly announced its participation in the 2025 European Company Sport Games (ECSG) held in Calvia, Mallorca bringing home a total of 18 medals.

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all medalists and participants for their dedication and efforts. Their performances have once again made Malta proud on the international stage of company sports,” wrote MESA in a statement.

The ECSG was held in Mallorca between 25th and 29th June and the Maltese contingent consisted of nearly 100 athletes who competed across five different sport disciplines.

Among the notable achievements, the Bank of Valletta (BOV) bowling team composed of Ernest Agius, Alan Attard, Gordon Genovese, and Nicholas Muscat earned a silver medal in Category A. BOV also celebrated success in beach volleyball, with their women’s doubles team made up of Alison Borg and Martha Fenech, securing a silver medal in the Women’s Open Beach Volleyball Tournament.

Meanwhile, the Malta International Airport (MIA) bowling team, consisting of Rene Bartolo, Simon Mizzi, Luke Mercieca, and Aaron Belli, captured a silver medal in Category B.

Track and road race events proved to be particularly successful for the Maltese delegation, with several athletes delivering outstanding performances. Aaron Mifsud from APS Bank secured a total of five medals, including four golds in the 5000-metre, 1500-metre, 800-metre, and the 10-kilometre Open City Run (Category C), along with a silver in the 400-metre.

His colleague, Darren Agius, also from APS Bank, earned two silver medals in the 5000-metre (Category C) and the 10-kilometre Open City Run. Representing the Malta Police Force, David Bezzina claimed two bronze medals in the 200-metre and 400-metre (Category C).

Peter Azzopardi earned two gold medals in the 800-metre and 5-kilometre (Category E). Meanwhile, Caroline Ciappara earned a silver medal in the 5-kilometre (Category C), rounding off a series of commendable results for Malta’s track and road athletes.

In the Football five-a-side competition, five Maltese teams representing the Correctional Services Agency (CSA), Transport Malta, Wasteserv, St Vincent de Paul Residence (SVPR) and the Housing Authority competed against 24 international teams. Four of Malta’s teams advanced to the Round of 16, with CSA team finishing fourth overall after narrowly missing out on the bronze medal.

Maltese athletes also had a strong showing in tennis, with 13 participants from Rinella Tennis Club competing in various categories.

While in Calvia, MESA officials also took part in the European Federation for Company Sport Executive Meeting and General Assembly. One of the key items on the agenda was a presentation on the upcoming World Company Sport Games, scheduled to take place in Frederikshavn, Denmark from 10th to 14th June 2026.

MESA looks forward to once again leading a strong Maltese delegation at this international event.

Well done to MESA and to all athletes!
