Despite the masculinity surrounding the sport, women dominate weightlifting in Malta, and one young athlete stands out in particular, Tenishia Thornton.

You probably wouldn’t know it by looking at her, but Tenishia is probably the strongest teenager you will ever meet.

The 15-year-old has broken national records, won a medal at the world championships and is helping smash boundaries and stereotypes of sports in Malta.

And she’s revealing all in an exclusive interview brought by Melita and with Lovin Malta premiering tomorrow morning.

You don’t want to miss this one…

Thornton takes into the demanding life of a young athlete, including her rigiour training regime and how she manages to balance a social life with her passion for lifting weights.

It’s not easy being an athlete, especially in a field dominated by men, but Thornton has shown that gender is just a construct and that she’s the very best of the best.

Lovin Malta is on the lookout for the island’s young and inspiring female athletes excelling in their respective sports, from football to weightlifting and tennis to water polo.

Stay tuned for future episodes as we continue to discover some of the island’s most inspirational, female athletes.
