UEFA Confirms Ħamrun Spartans’ Group Fixtures
Ħamrun Spartans now know exactly what’s waiting for them in their historic UEFA Conference League group stage adventure, after UEFA officially confirmed the dates.
The journey kicks off in Poland on 2nd October, where the Spartans will face Jagiellonia in their opening match. But all eyes will be on 23rd October, when the Maltese champions return home to take on Swiss team Lausanne Sport in what promises to be a special night under the Ta’ Qali lights.
Fans won’t have to wait long for the blockbuster clash, as Ukrainian team Shakhtar Donetsk are coming to Malta on 11th December for what will be one of the biggest fixtures ever played on local soil.
On the road, Ħamrun will also face trips to Turkey and Ireland, meeting Samsunspor on 6th November and Shamrock Rovers on 18th December.
But perhaps the most historic date of all comes on 27th November, when the Spartans host Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps. It will be the first time ever that clubs from two European micro-states meet in the main stages of continental football.
This dream run comes just days after Ħamrun pulled off an unforgettable 3-2 aggregate victory over RFS in the play-off round, sealing their spot in the group stages of a major European competition for the very first time.
