Valletta FC Relegated After 118-Year Tenure In Premier League
Valletta’s historic 118-year title in the top division came to an end with a heavy defeat against Naxxar, sealing their relegation to the Challenge League.
Coach Juan Gill Cruz’s decision to stick with the winning lineup from the Balzan match reflected his belief in the saying “never change a winning side.” Conversely, Naxxar made a change in their starting formation.
From the start, Valletta faced challenges against Naxxar’s play, conceding an early goal and ultimately ending with a 4-0 defeat. This loss marked the end of an era for Valletta, while Naxxar secured their Premier League status with a relentless pursuit of victory.
The defeat leaves Valletta’s loyal supporters in tears, witnessing the club’s relegation for the first time in its long history.
“A sad day as Valletta FC are relegated. Let’s hope we bounce back next year. Proud to be a Valletta boy, my business is here, my home is here and my local team is here,” Mark Weingard took to Facebook to express his sadness for the team.
