Malta secured a crucial victory against Moldova in the UEFA Nations League tonight in Davide Mazzotta’s first game in charge of the national team.

After a balanced first half, Malta turned it up a gear in the second half, piling constant pressure on the Moldovans. However, it looked set to be a frustrating evening for Malta until the 86th minute when an exciting passage of play ended up with the lively debutant Basil Tuma getting fouled in the box.

Up stepped Teddy Teuma, and the Reims midfielder made no mistake from the spot.

Teuma could easily finished the game with two goals. A Moldovan handball in the box deep into injury time saw Malta awarded a second penalty, but this time Teuma blasted it over the bar.

Malta remains in second place in their group, level on points with Moldova, who have a superior goal difference of three goals. Both teams still need to play against Andorra.

Well done Malta!
