WATCH: André Schembri In Brutal Takedown Of Malta Football Association

Everyone is applauding him for cutting through the bullshit

Malta captain André Schembri let it all out in a brutally candid interview with a Maltese sports journalist who asked him about Malta's performance in the world cup qualifier against England yesterday.

"I'll give you the same reaction I always give: We lost. And in 20 years' time you will interview another player and we will once again say 'we lost'."

Pointing his fingers at "those leading Maltese football", Mr Schembri said the problems went way beyond the players.

"What else can we say? That we had a cross-country in the pitch? Some people will be pleased with a 2-0 loss but I'm not pleased. When you can't create even a bit of an attack, it's sad."

"We need a whole reshuffle... in the youth system, the level of coaching... I've been saying this for years. You keep interviewing us but there are 10 people from the MFA (Malta Football Association) here. I think you should interview them instead."

"What else can we say? That we had a cross-country in the pitch? Some people will be pleased with a 2-0 loss but I'm not pleased. When you can't create even a bit of an attack, it's sad. We're so far behind. And it's not the players fault. It's the fault of those running Maltese football."

"If we don't change, you will be here in 20 years' time and we will be in the same situation," he added.

The clip aired during yesterday's sport programm l-Argument on ONE.
