Watch: Athletes Power Through Tough Weather Conditions In LifeStar Malta Marathon
Runners persevered through the unfavourable weather conditions in the 2024 LifeStar Malta Marathon, which took place earlier today.
The 39th edition of the Malta Marathon saw a turnout of over 3,500 athletes, all geared up for the challenging races, including the full marathon, half marathon spanning 21km, and the walkathon.
Enduring relentless rain throughout most of the race and battling against strong winds, participants encountered exceptionally tough conditions, adding to the already demanding nature of the event.
A video posted to social media by coach Fabio Spiteri of 18-year-old athlete Tommy Wallbank, who made his marathon debut this morning, shows the tough weather conditions the runners had to endure.
Given the weather conditions, many believed it highly improbable for any athlete to set new records in either the full or half marathon.
However, defending champion Jemima Farley managed to establish a new course record, securing her second consecutive victory in this morning’s marathon while also setting a new record time of 2:35:41. The Briton is based in Malta and is affiliated with the Ladies Running Club.
Moroccan runner Alaa Hrioued dominated the men’s race, securing a comfortable victory ahead of Andrew Grech, who claimed second place, and Matthew Xuereb, who landed in third place.
