As Neil Agius steadily approaches the 12th hour of his swim, the sun has started setting… or rather, getting covered by clouds.

By 5pm, the wind had changed quite drastically, with updates from his team’s support boats being drowned out by the powerful gusts as cloud cover continued to dominate the horizon. Around an hour later, Agius had skipped Smart City, gotten to Xgħajra, and hit the 25-kilometre mark.

Arguably one of the toughest points of Neil’s swim lies ahead – the first night, a section of his epic swim which he is expected to take on in the deep sea of Malta’s southwestern coast, with such sights like Filfla and Dingli’s cliffs ahead.

By tomorrow, Neil is expected to reach Gozo, before also going round the sister island and turning back to Malta again. Three days after his initial departure from Mellieħa Bay this morning, Neil would have completed 160 kilometres, setting a new world record… breaking his own one.
