Watch: England Fans Flock To Paceville Ahead Of Tonight’s Match
England football fans have been streaming into pubs in Malta ahead of their national team’s UEFA EURO Qualifier face off with the Maltese squad – which kicks off at 8.45pm – and though fans are hoping for a competitive game, the ambience seems cordial and joyous.
“English breakfasts have been washed down with pints of beer,” Philip Fenech, Deputy President for the Chamber of SMEs told Lovin Malta.
“People started arriving since Monday, but are accumulating even more,” he continued, “And there hasn’t been any tension or trouble”.
Fenech told Lovin Malta that largely as a result of this match, which will kick off at Malta’s Ta’ Qali National Stadium, there have been reports that popular restaurants and pubs have been making a busy weekend’s worth of sales in just a day.
“Maltas historic ties with England means there isn’t much rivalry,” said Fenech.
Some people might disagree, particularly given that we’re only just over a week out from Sette Giugno – but regardless, it would appear that Malta football fans are not holding any sort of grudge against the descendants of our colonial oppressors.
Have a great game, everybody!
