Maltese footballer Haley Bugeja ended her debut season with Serie A side Sassuolo as the team’s top goal scorer after netting a brace against Empoli over the weekend.
It has been a spectacular season for Bugeja who finished as strong as she started with two beautiful goals, the second of which was an identical effort to a goal she scored on her season debut against Napoli last September.
Bugeja’s first goal came in the 48th minute with an incredible solo effort that saw her rush past defenders before beating the goalkeeper with a graceful lob.
Sassuolo ended up beating Empoli 6-1 in what was their last game of the season with Bugeja coming in as the team’s top goalscorer with a total of 12. The Serie A side just missed out on the Champions League after finishing the season in third, behind Juventus and Milan.
Bugeja’s 12 goal feat puts her among the top five goalscorers of the season with the young football prodigy showing a lot of promise in the future, especially for an athlete who is just 17-year-olds.
Lovin Malta spoke to Bugeja about her rise to football fame last December.
