Watch: Joseph Portelli Sends Heartfelt Message To Ħamrun Fans Ahead Of Crunch Floriana Game
Ahead of tomorrow’s make-or-break Maltese Premier League game, Ħamrun Spartans president Joseph Portelli has issued a statement to supporters reflecting on his time in charge of the club.
“Nadur is my village but I now have a second village (Ħamrun), something that I never thought would happen,” Portelli said. “Hearing the supporters sing San Gaetano is so lovely; it gives you so much satisfaction and makes you so emotional that it can’t even be put into words.”
“I hope that we are crowned champions on Saturday.”
Tomorrow’s game between Ħamrun and Floriana is one of the most anticipated fixtures in recent Maltese football history.
With only two games to go, Ħamrun are top of the table with 58 points, with Floriana trailing by a single point.
Ħamrun will automatically win the league if they defeat Floriana tomorrow, while a Floriana victory or draw will see the Premier League battle go down to the final day of the season.
If Floriana defeat Ħamrun and their final opponents, Gżira, they will win the league. A draw against Gżira could also be enough, depending on the outcome of Ħamrun’s final game against Hibernians.
If the two Premier League giants come draw, then Ħamrun will need to defeat Hibs in their final game to be assured of victory.
