A Maltese athlete has just secured what’s been described as the “most sought-after” Muay Thai belt in South Thailand; the Bangla Title.

Adam Laamouz is the first Maltese fighter to claim a title in Muay Thai, his victory serves as an inspiration for aspiring fighters.

He accomplished this incredible feat yesterday when he fought at the famous Bangla stadium in Thailand, under professional Muay Thai rules of 5 rounds of 3 minutes as he faced off against the formidable Thai fighter Petchmokareth.

Laamouz told Lovin Malta that his competitor had “vastly more” experience with a record of 88 wins to just seven losses. However, he entered the ring with determination and a spirit to make history for Malta, and that’s precisely what he did.
“We fought for the most sought-after belt in the South of Thailand, as you can see here ranked by Siam Fight official. We fought for The Bangla Title.”
Not only is this the first time Malta has taken such a title in this discipline, but it’s also the first time that someone’s taken a title in Thailand on behalf of Malta, according to Laamouz.
The athlete fought under the team “Phuket Singha” under the guidance of Kru Beau Chonlaek and Kru Pat.
“Kru Pat’s team is composed of Lumpinee champions (Lumpinee being the best of the best out here) Lumpinee is the highest level of competition in Muay Thai, all Muay Thai fighters dream of fighting in Lumpinee and being Lumpinee champions,” Laamouz explained.
He has trained and developed under Noel Mercieca from Team Noel and his Muay Thai coach, Vuk Stekovic from Fort Muay Thai.
“It is thanks to them I am a professional fighter,” Laamouz said fondly when speaking of his coaches.
Upon arriving in Thailand, Laamouz underwent intensive training with Kru Beau Chonlaek, a highly respected coach known for mentoring high-level fighters. Kru Pat, with 22 years of experience as a Muay Thai coach, provided invaluable insights and guidance to Adam, reinforcing the significance of top-notch coaching in the world of professional Muay Thai.
With a big heart and an unwavering commitment to his craft, Laamouz has etched his name in the annals of Maltese sports history, proving that with the right preparation and determination, even the most significant challenges can be overcome. His victory is not just a personal triumph but a historic moment for Malta on the international Muay Thai stage.
Congratulations Adam!
