Her win comes with her initial game-plan and quick change of strategy and she seamlessly integrated a new sweeping technique to pass her opponents’ guard.

Bonnici won this year trained by head coach Thomas Vander Eecken at the most winning academy in Malta, Avant-Garde BJJ Malta, which already produced four European champions.

Michelle Bonnici is the only Maltese national to win the brown belt category, as well as the only Maltese national to have won two European titles. Her journey to the European IBJJF Championship comes after a seven year break, after becoming a mother to three.
