Mosta FC President George Galea stirred controversy during a recent episode of Il-Kampjonat on TVM Sport+, making bold claims about how some parents try to influence youth football selections.

“There are female parents who have sexual relations with a coach for their son to play,” he stated, warning it is an issue that affects many clubs.

Qormi FC coach Jesmond Zerafa also weighed in, saying he’s seen parents do “anything and everything” to get their kids on the pitch—including joining club committees while their children are still playing. Galea agreed, adding: “I have a big nursery and see many things. This has been happening for a while.”

The conversation, including laughter from both Zerafa and host Antvin Monseigneur, has raised eyebrows online—with many questioning the tone and appropriateness of the remarks.

What are your thoughts on this? Is this a real issue in Maltese football, or were the comments out of line?
