Watch: This Was A Top Maltese Cricket Team, Not The Malta National Side
A video has been doing the rounds of a Maltese cricket club listening to the national anthem ahead of a game, which sparked controversy due to the large number of foreign players on the team.
Although a number of media outlets reported that this was the national Maltese cricket team, it is not the case.
In fact, the video shows Royal Strikers – a Maltese cricket club – ahead of a game in Spain at this year’s European Cricket League, known as the “Champions League of European Cricket”.
Royal Strikers earned their place in the competition by winning the 2024 Malta National Cricket League.
They performed admirably – beating Denmark’s Skanderborg, Bulgaria’s Sofia Stars and Norway’s Christiana before narrowly losing out in the group final in a rematch against Skanderborg.
Farmers, a Jersey-based cricket club, ended up winning the competition by beating Italian side Roma in the final.
