Maltese defender Zach Muscat has just announced a new chapter in his career: Turkey’s First League team Şanlıurfaspor.

The deal, which was initially reported over the weekend, was confirmed moments ago, with the Turkish second-tier club welcoming him to his new home as they wished him “a successful career in our Yellow Green jersey”.

“Zach Muscat officially joined our team at the signing ceremony accompanied by our club manager Kulsmail liğimşek,” the team wrote on social media.

31-year-old Muscat, who plays with the Maltese national team, had been without a club since leaving Portugal’s SC Farense at the end of the 2023/4 campaign. With Farense, he played 51 games, scoring six goals. He also played for Portugal’s Casa Pisa, with 61 appearances. With the Maltese national team, Muscat has had 69 caps.

The beloved Maltese defender joins Şanlıurfaspor at a tough time, with the Turkish team fighting against relegation as they sit 16th out of 20 in the TFF First League. The last four teams in the league drop to the third-tier league… but we’re sure Muscat is going to do everything in his might to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Congrats Muscat and go Team Malta!
