Step Inside Malta’s New Luxury Wellness Retreat At The Verdala
The iconic Verdala has been reborn as Malta’s newest luxury wellness hotel.
AX Hotels has officially opened the 5-star Verdala Wellness Hotel in Rabat, offering guests a curated mix of luxury, heritage and holistic living. Part of the AX Privilege Collection, it is now taking bookings for those looking to slow down, recharge and indulge in next-level self-care.
Once a hospitality hotspot in the 1970s, the original Grand Hotel Verdala was famous for hosting international film stars, dignitaries and industry leaders. Today, the building has been reimagined as a wellness destination, with every detail designed to restore balance – from natural materials and calming interiors to private terraces with hammocks and jacuzzis.
The 46 rooms and suites range from Comfort Rooms to the signature Observatory Suite, many with countryside views. Guests can immerse themselves in the 1,500-square-metre V SPA, which features a salt cave, hammam, infrared sauna, cave-style indoor pool, movement studios for yoga and Pilates and a host of therapies from physiotherapy to energy healing.
Verdala’s wellness philosophy follows Five Pillars of Wellbeing, reflected not just in the spa, but also in thoughtful communal spaces like The Nest for reflection, The Phoenix Hall for workshops and the Echoes meditation zone.
The wellness journey continues at The Griffin Brasserie, the revived landmark that once served as Malta’s favourite tearoom and nightclub. Its new menu blends Mediterranean simplicity with seasonal, nourishing ingredients, led by Head Chef Brady Dalli and guided by Culinary Director Victor Borg.
For AX Group, the project is a milestone in its 50th anniversary year. Chairman Angelo Xuereb called it “a defining moment in our company’s legacy” and praised daughters Claire and Denise for their instrumental roles in bringing it to life.
