Stephen Schwartz’s Concert ‘Defying Gravity’ To Feature Theatre Legend John Oliver-Jones

Renowned composer, Stephen Schwartz, who’s set to land in Malta on 29th September has announced a new addition to the musical lineup!

The highly anticipated orchestral event has been teasing us with musical acts and features all summer, and the good news hasn’t stopped!

Theatre legend John Owen-Jones has been announced to join the already magical lineup for the event. The world-renowned tenor is most notable for his role as The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, in which he’s portrayed the character nearly 2,000 times internationally.

“I first visited Malta on a family holiday when I was young – my first ever holiday abroad – and I am delighted to be returning again,” John said in an official statement, “I have a feeling that my visit this time around will be more special however, as it’ll be my first time performing there!”

In his first ever performance in Malta alongside Schwartz, the talented duo grace the lands with two shows in one day.

The legendary scores will be performed by our very own Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, guided by Hon. Ian MacGregor himself. The event will also see performances by local sensations Ira Losco, Destiny and Joseph Calleja!

Hosted at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, the event will feature the debut of symphonic orchestrations of Broadway, as well as classic film scores from The Wizard and I, When You Believe, the titular Defying Gravity and many more.

The first show will start at 2.30pm followed by the second performance at 7.30pm on the 29th September.

The hype surrounding the event is perfectly put by John himself saying, “What a gift! I can’t wait to get on that stage. I feel just as lucky as the audience members who have tickets for this very special event!”
