Sweets, Swearing & Sex – Here’s What Malta Gave Up For Lent
Every year a lot of Maltese people give up some of life’s greatest pleasures as part of their Lenten sacrifice. Well the 40-day nightmare is almost over and we commend everyone who managed to see it through.
At the beginning of this whole ordeal we asked you what you were planning on giving up this year. Here’s the top six things Maltese people sacrificed for Lent.
1. Desserts
Coming in with the most votes was the go-to fasting choice. A bunch of brave Maltese heroically people gave up sugar – despite the onset of delicious Easter-themed treats calling out for divine moments of weakness.
2. Swearing & Soft Drinks
Maltese people are known to be kind of fouled-mouthed – so we tip our hats off to anyone who managed to go more than a month without swearing. More than a month without Kinnie though – that we can’t imagine. Swearing and soft-drinks came in tied with the second-most votes
3. Alcohol
The third most sacrificed vice this year was alcohol. So brace yourselves for the messy comeback which will inevitably hit Malta in the immediate future.
4. Sex & Junk Food
We literally have no idea how people made this happen. No idea.
5. Coffee
Coffee came in as the fifth most sacrificed thing in our vote. Happily, there are places in Malta that will balm your serious withdrawal symptoms come tomorrow.
6. Social Media
Err, we’re not sure this actually worked seeing as out social media channels have been more saturated than ever. But we’re happy to give out an A for effort.
BONUS: Honorary Mentions
We did get a few one-off fasting submissions. These ranged from the Biblical to the parodical – meat, fish, pornography, and ‘my secret Panama account’ were all listed. #SomeoneWentThere
