With A Long Weekend On The Way, Malta Is Ready To Serve Sun, Heat And Fun
As Malta gears up for the rising temperatures caused by the onslaught of June, many of us need to find ways of readjusting to the summer vibes that were uncharacteristically missing from May… apart from like three days of burning hell but still.
So before the sun sets on your attention span, allow me to list 13 ways you could spend your first true summer weekend in Malta.
Friday 7th June
1. A century since
2019 marks a hundred years since the infamous Sette Giugno riots took place on the streets of Valletta.
In memory of that, Teatru Malta will be putting on an an amazing musical telling the story that cost four men their lives. With some of the biggest names in the Maltese industry involved in the production, VII (Sette) is not something you want to miss out on.
2. TRANS-form your knowledge with this documentary
A new Olwyn Jo documentary detailing the lived experiences of five transgender individuals in Malta called TRANSformazzjoni is being launched this Saturday, so if you want to broaden your knowledge on the topic and learn about what it’s like to be apart of a marginalised minority group, you should definitively check this out.
3. Spot the Chameleon
For the first time since the Eurovision, Malta’s beloved starlet Michela will be performing live in concert at the Triton Fountain in Valletta. We’re expecting block colours, amazing choreography and a lot of CHAMA-CHAMELEON chanting.
4. A dragon appears
Simmer down GOT fans ,this isn’t about you.
It’s actually about the summer opening of the Dragonara Club Lounge, and all you have to do to be on the guest list is send them a Facebook message. Literally!
5. When alcohol meets automobiles…
And those automobiles serve food, you know you’ve found Malta’s first ever Food Truck and Craft Beer Festival, Taps & Trucks. With great food, great beer and tons of activities for the whole family to enjoy, this is not an event to miss.
Saturday 8th June
6. Ask an Iron Maiden
No, for once, that isn’t a terrible joke, because the lead singer of legendary rock band Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson will be in Malta for a special Q&A session.
Want to know how he became a superstar? Or a pilot, or a best-selling author, or motivational speaker, or a screenwriter, or a fencer, or literally any of the other crazy things he’s managed to achieve in his life? Well, you have the perfect opportunity to get all the details straight from the source.
7. Stay on the beat
Spazju Kreattiv will be showing a beautiful coming of age film, Beats, that follows two childhood friends in a small Scottish town who enjoy one last night out together that could change their lives forever.
8. Take That, Maltese airwaves
For those of you who are too young / too uncultured to remember the band Take That, educate yourselves.
Specifically, do it at the one night only live screening of the final UK show from their 2019 Greatest Hits tour at the Eden Cinemas. While I’m sure many Take That fans will be in attendance, it would be much funnier to me personally if the theatre is filled with people who are totally unaware of who’s playing. So you should consider going, simply for my amusement.
9. Join many people enjoying pasta
Again, this subheading is perfectly literal as MMG Promotions are organising an Għaġinata at the MMG Bar and Bistro in Zabbar which is expected to be the largest amount of people eating pasta together in Malta.
10. Listen to a local powerhouse
Wait, sorry I meant Lighthouse. As in, the local five-piece band that will be playing a number of original pieces alongside some classic rock covers at the Storeroom in Ta’ Xbiex.

Sunday 9th June
11. Discrimination-free football
Moviment Graffitti is organising an anti-racism football tournament along with a collection of children’s activities such as face painting and a percussion session. Hosted at St. Paul’s Missionary College, Rabat, the whole event is free of charge, so you can enjoy a fun, inclusive football tournament while your littling gets a cute balloon animal without breaking the bank.
12. A charity car wash
The NGO Passi and Beyond are putting on a car wash for charity for the low price of just €6. Taking place next to the Black Pearl Restaurant in Ta’ Xbiex, anyone feeling generous should definitely take the time to support all their hard work.
13. An elegant car show
The Valletta Concours d’Elegance is a yearly car show which showcases some of Malta’s most beautiful classics, giving out prizes in a variety of categories for the cars and for the best outfits of the owners. So if you own a classic auto or you just want to see some vintage beasts and period-accurate outfits, make sure you head down to St. George’s Square this Sunday.
