Check Out Lovin Malta’s Awesome Phone Boombox Made Through The Magic Of Digital Fabrication
Last year we asked our readers to send us their best ideas for a cool gift we could send our amazingly supportive clients – the ones who make this all possible. The request quickly evolved into a 3D printer giveaway competition which was hosted by Open Tinkers and digital fabrication gurus Dfab.studio.
We got many great entries, but the one that stood out was this beautiful wooden phone dock which also doubled as a mini boombox designed by Benjamin Sacco. This 22-year-old designer came up with this killer concept and it was love at first sight.
He won an awesome 3D printer courtesy of Open Tinkers, and soon after, we began refining the design with Dfab.studio.
The entire process started with a series of 3D printed mock-ups to finalise the geometry and design. The finished boombox was produced with a combination of CNC milling and laser cutting.
Part of the process of transforming the design into a physical object was the choice of materials. In this case a hardwood was chosen for its warm acoustic timbre, the aesthetic natural look and its ease of fabrication.
Neatly closing it all off is a laser-cut acrylic grid in our signature red, and that good old logo you’ve come to know and love… all of which was lovingly completed by hand for each and every single model.
And Voilà! Say hello to Lovin Malta’s N.A.M.B.
We’re now giving out a very limited amount of NAMBs to our most frequent clients… but don’t worry; a beautiful design like this will definitely be making its way to your hands eventually.
