Could It Happen? Malta Invites Elon Musk To Visit Island And Address Space Conference
Malta’s government has formally invited Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, to visit the island and address an upcoming national space-related conference.
Parliamentary Secretary for Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti held a meeting with SpaceX officials at their California offices today, discussing the connectivity of Starlink satellites over Malta and identifying various active points.
Azzopardi Tanti presented SpaceX with a copy of Malta’s new National Space Strategy for feedback ahead of the government’s drafting of the first national Space Act and even got to visit the aerospace giant’s Falcon 9 rockets.
He told Lovin Malta that a formal extension for SpaceX founder Elon Musk to visit Malta was passed on to his office, with the government now awaiting a final decision by the business magnate.
During his trip to California, Azzopardi Tanti also held a meeting with NASA, during which the two parties agreed to send a Maltese researcher on a six-month internship at the NASA GeneLab, launch a STEM-related bootcamp in Malta and hold a conference in Malta.
A copy of the National Space Strategy was also sent to NASA for feedback.
