Malta Still Waiting As Facebook Watch Video Service Rolls Out Internationally
Facebook’s very own video-streaming platform, Facebook Watch, is rolling out internationally more than one year after it first launched in the United States, with creators and businesses in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand benefitting from the streaming service this month.
The social media platform has posited Facebook Watch as a direct competitor to Google’s YouTube, highlighting alternative monetisation incentives for content creators and businesses. Eligible pages will also unlock Facebook’s Ad Breaks service for videos, with all ad revenue split on a 55% to 45% basis, the latter going to Facebook.
Current shows on Facebook Watch feature personalities like Jada Pinkett Smith and Elizabeth Olsen, as well as media houses like Vice and Buzzfeed
Creators to meet new criteria for eligibility
In an effort to reach as many content houses and businesses as possible, Facebook has lowered the bar for Facebook Watch services, with the following criteria now in force for interested parties:
- Have at least 10,000 followers on Facebook
- Generate over 30,000 one-minute views within the two-month period prior to applying
- Host videos that are over 3 minutes long
- Meet the overall Facebook Watch and Ad Breaks service eligibility standards
Malta so far unnamed in second Facebook Watch rollout of countries
Facebook has since announced that 21 other countries will be able to apply for the Ad Breaks service including European ones. France, Germany and Spain have been named as new beneficiaries, along with other Latin American and Asian countries.
No sight of Malta on Facebook Watch’s schedule so far, but with YouTube’s Partner Programme heading to our shores, we expect the social media giant to extend a hand to Maltese creators in a matter of weeks.
