Malta’s First Solar Bins That Compact Trash And Notify Local Councils When They Get Full Rolled Out In Ta’ Xbiex

Move along present, the future is here. The Ta’ Xbiex Local Council have teamed up with Solar Bins Malta to install Malta’s first ever public solar-powered bins.
Running on solar energy, each unit is smart and sensor-equipped, and is also equipped with an intelligent system that compacts waste automatically whenever the bin is full. And it can compact up to five times, creating space and reducing the chances of your local bin overflowing with waste.
“This is a first for Malta and for local councils in general,” Max Zammit, the mayor of Ta’ Xbiex, told Lovin Malta
“As a Council we have always promoted environmental friendly measures in order to have a cleaner and safer environment. Such systems are viable since there will be less collections and hence less trucks, which also means no overflows or visible waste. This is the future of waste management.”

Each unit communicates its real-time status and notifies the council when it is ready to be collected
It is hoped that the new solar bins will streamline waste management operations, increase productivity, and promote a “cleaner and greener environment”.
Ta’ Xbiex was the first locality to separate waste, have i-bins, and begin organic waste collection, and this week, they will be teaming up with Żibel to start using their highly-anticipated seabins.
If these green new initiatives prove to be a success, it is hoped other local councils will catch on and follow suit over the summer months – but at least now we know why Ta’ Xbiex Local Council has been given the Green Council award for the last six years in a row.
