Xjenza Malta has successfully concluded its Horizon Europe Information Session, held at the stunning Villa Bighi.

The event brought together researchers, innovators and private sector stakeholders, all seeking insights into Horizon Europe, the EU’s flagship research and innovation funding programme

Throughout the day, the Horizon Europe National Contact Points presented the three main pillars of Horizon Europe, along with the importance of broadening participation and strengthening the European Research Area.

During his address, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation Keith Azzopardi Tanti stressed the importance of international collaboration and Malta’s active participation in Horizon Europe, saying that “Research and innovation are crucial pillars for our future economic growth. Malta must continue to be bold in its ambitions and proactive in its collaborations to access European funds through programmes like Horizon Europe. I commend all those who are taking the initiative to get involved and grow our potential as a nation.”

Anthea Fabri, Director of the Framework Programme Unit at Xjenza Malta, also highlighted the essential role Horizon Europe plays within Malta’s research and innovation ecosystem. Whilst acknowledging the current success that Maltese organisations have already achieved by securing almost €50 million from this programme, she added that “As a small nation, Malta must work strategically and collaboratively to maximise its presence on the European research stage. Horizon Europe presents many opportunities, and we are fully committed to empowering local talent to succeed in this competitive environment.”

The session offered an in-depth look at the structure and workings of Horizon Europe, covering participation criteria, eligible costs and funding priorities for the 2025 calls. Participants also received practical information on the support available from Xjenza Malta to help with their applications.

The Information Session further strengthened Xjenza Malta’s commitment to supporting and empowering researchers, industry players and local innovators to thrive in the European research and innovation landscape.
