Ultimate Underdog: Jay’s Several Obstacles In His Rise To The Top Of Big Brother Malta

Jay’s Big Brother Malta victory was a stunning underdog success story. The youngest contestant, Jay was one of the early public favourites for eviction but he gradually gained support inside and outside the House and managed to rise right to the top.
Here are some of the major challenges he faced along the way.
1. The Maltese Controversy
Jay immediately put a target on his back when he revealed in the Diary Room that he was playing down his knowledge of Maltese because he didn’t trust anyone in the House yet.
Many people warned that this strategy would backfire and it seemed that he would be an easy early vote.
2. Losing His Closest Allies
Jay developed an early bromance with Dwayne, but his close ally became the first housemate to be evicted. A week later, Matthias – another ally – followed him out of the door, crumbling Jay’s inner circle.
3. A Narrow Escape Away From Elimination
By the third week, Jay was teetering on the edge of eviction – until Big Brother revealed that Donna, another of his close friends, had broken the rules by swearing inside the house.
While Donna ended up going home, Jay finished in second place, which meant that he would very probably have got eliminated himself if his friend hadn’t broken a rule.
4. The Raisa Saga
@lovinmaltaofficialRaisa and Jay’s growing friendship had everyone talking during this week’s Big Brother Malta. While some believe it’s purely innocent, others aren’t so convinced. Raisa’s fiancé, however, isn’t fazed, saying he completely trusts her and even compares her bond with Jay to the one she shares with her brother. What’s your take?
Jay’s relationship with Raisa was one of the early talking points on the show, with the presenters even asking Raisa’s fiancé to weigh in. Despite both housemates repeatedly insisting they were just good friends, the public perception of Jay as a potential homewrecker started to take hold.
5. That Raisa Vote
In the fourth week, Jay shocked viewers when, instead of using his Head of House power to save Raisa, he nominated Ira for the public vote.
The decision backfired spectacularly: Raisa was eliminated, Jay lost a key ally, angered Ira, and damaged his credibility both inside the house and with the public. At the time, it looked like a misstep on all fronts.
6. Saved by ‘Patatagate’
@lovinmaltaofficialKyle and Marvic had a showdown on Big Brother Malta yesterday. Kyle told Marvic that he has a problem with him stripping completely naked before taking a shower and said he often saw his bare bottom.
With his reputation bruised, Jay found himself nominated again the following week. But as the tide seemed to be turning against him, public attention had shifted to Kyle and his infamous ‘patatagate’ clash with Marvic. Kyle ended up going home and Jay slipped by again.
7. Banned from the vote
@lovinmaltaofficialA heated argument erupted on Big Brother today between Sean, Jay, Karl, and Ira
Tensions with Ira escalated further when a heated row over a secret task ended with Jay tossing a headband at her in anger.
Big Brother punished them both by banning them from voting in the next round of nominations, stripping Jay of what little control he had left.
8. Ballet Hospitalisation

Jay suffered an ankle injury during a hilarious ballet challenge and had to leave the game for a while.
He revealed last night that he had actually been sent to hospital for treatment.
9. A Powerless Head of House
When Jay finally won a Head of House challenge in Week 10, Marvic’s sudden decision to quit the game stripped the title of its powers. Jay was helpless as his close ally Sean was voted out.
10. The Final Comeback
Despite it all, Jay made it to the final. However, Karl had clearly established himself as the favourite when he won a public vote to determine the first finalist, with his close ally Gabriel following shortly after.
However, Jay’s character and arc over the past three months ultimately resonated with the public.
