Jean Carl Agius Ciscaldi, the minority leader of the Ħamrun local council, wants TVM to issue an official apology over a controversial Family Feud Malta episode which inadvertently labelled people from Ħamrun as ħamalli (chavs).

On behalf of the PN councillors, Agius Ciscaldi wrote to the council to request that it files an official complaint with TVM.

“As everyone knows, we were insulted nationwide on TVM during Family Feud Malta,” he said.

“I am proposing that the local council writes to TVM to request an official apology to the people of Ħamrun for the show which stigmatised the Ħamrun identity. It saddens me to see the national broadcaster attack the people of Ħamrun during the festive season.”

Family Feud had carried out an audience survey asking people to define characteristics associated with ħamalli and ‘being from Ħamrun’ emerged as one of the top answers. It was aired during a special episode which saw Love Island Malta winner Chelsea Bagnall’s family face off against the family of fellow winner Allen Piscopo.
