‘Jien Ħamallu’: Ħamrun Councillor Defends Locality Following ‘Ħamallu’ Label In Family Feud Episode
Ħamrun councillor Efrem Buttigieg took to social media last night to react to yesterday’s Family Feud episode, which included the locality on the list when prompting participants to “describe someone who is Ħamallu” (crude, loud or chavvy).”
“On the national station, which is supposed to be everyone’s, we the Ħamruniżi have been labelled as ‘ħamalli’ on a low-quality and unserious programme,” stated Buttigieg.
The participants, Love Island season 1 winners Chelsea Bagnall and Allen Piscopo together with their families, were asked what aspects are considered as ‘ħamallu’, which included responses like “wears golden jewellery” and “covered in tattoos”.
And in fourth place for characteristics which reflect what a ħamallu is – “‘from Ħamrun” was the response.
“Whether we are ‘ħamalli’ or not is not important, the important thing is that we are a humble and happy population, with a big heart, who cares for others and is always on the forefront to help whoever is in need,” added the councillor.
Buttigieg concluded by stating that he is proud to work and form part of the Ħamrun community, joking that he himself is also a ħamallu, then.
