The long awaited Christmas holidays are halfway done. While some of us like to find time for activities we are usually too busy for, others just like to unwind and catch up on Netflix series.

If you’re looking for drama and action, here are five series you should have in your Netflix watchlist. Make sure you turn on the subtitles as none of these dramas are in English!

1. Vis a Vis

Spanish series Vis a Vis revolves around Macarena Ferrerio, who was sent to prison for fiscal offences she never committed. The story depicts prison life and the corruption of law enforcement bodies.

The series contains 40 episodes split between four seasons. If you enjoyed La Casa De Papel, you will probably like this one. Although Vis a Vis is much heavier and graphic, both series share some of the same actors and actresses.

2. Snabba Cash

Swedish series Snabba Cash takes place in Stockholm and delves into drug gangs that sell their stashes around the city. Aspiring entrepreneur Leya needs money to fund her start-up and turns to her drug lord brother-in-law to pay off the investors. However, once involved in the drug trade, there is no turning back for Leya and her little boy Sami.

There are so far two seasons containing six episodes each, but Snabba Cash is set to continue. Fans of Narcos will probably like this Swedish thriller.

3. Fauda

The Israeli occupation of Palestine is a never-ending tragedy that is depicted in Hebrew-Arabic series Fauda. The story is brought from the perspective of the Israeli Defence Force with central figure Doron depicted as the Israeli hero.

Although the series is arguably biased against the Palestinian fighters, it’s an undeniably good series. If you’re able to believe cautiously, you will enjoy the three seasons of Fauda, with a fourth coming this January.

4. Toyboy

Oriented in the south of Spain, Toyboy tells the unusual story of a stripper called Hugo Beltran. After falling into a sexual relationship with the influential Macarena Medina, Hugo wakes up at the crime scene of her husband’s murder.

Off the back of a poor trial and seven years in prison, Hugo’s case is re-trialed by a mysterious pro-bono lawyer. So far there are two seasons of Toyboy, but a third one may be on the cards soon.

5. Il Processo

Italian series Il Processo sheds light on criminal lawyer Elena Guerra. Supposedly on a gap year, Elena is made to stay and take on a delicate case involving 17-year-old Angelica Petroni, who is thought to have been killed by a wealthy figure.

Halfway through the series, the lawyer finds a very deep connection with the murdered victim. Il Processo has only one season on offer for now. If you enjoy series like Law and Order or Suits, this may be their Italian cousin.
