‘A Same-Sex Dating Show Could Be In The Pipeline’ – Love Island’s Producer Shares

Love Island Malta producer Martina Zammit said that the team is exploring the possibility of bringing an LGBTQI+ dating show to Malta
Earlier today, Sidestreet revealed that Zammit had said that she was open to the “possibility of exploring same-sex TV shows for Malta”. Lovin Malta reached out to the producer, who confirmed that this was indeed something she would be willing to explore.
“Although I’d love for something of this sort to happen, the Love Island formula doesn’t allow this to happen. Mathematically, it won’t make sense. For instance, if two girls are drawn to each other on the show, this would mean that two boys will end up by themselves.”
“To cater for this, Love Island UK’s streamer, ITV, has created specific formats that cater to these sexualities,” she explained, mentioning the shows “I Kissed a Girl” and “I Kissed a Boy”, admitting that she would love to implement this format on our island’s television.
“This is something we are working towards – it’s in the pipeline,” Zammit told the newsroom.
Martina explained that she is particularly passionate about this idea, especially since she is one of the most prominent Maltese faces within the LGBTQI+ community.
When asked about the potential of having a Love Island Overs, the producer also said that this is something the team is working on.
“We received great feedback when we launched the April Fools joke with Lovin Malta,” Martina said, referring to the billboard announcing the new edition of the programme.
While nothing is confirmed yet, the producer admitted that the team has been getting “countless requests” for the idea to become a reality.
