Watch: Chef Nicholas Breaks Down In Tears As Late Wife’s Recipe Secures Challenge Victory
There were emotional scenes on MasterChef Malta last night when Chef Nicholas Bartolo won a challenge using a recipe he found in his late wife’s cookbooks.
When the remaining five chefs were challenged to create a variety of desserts, Nicholas turned to his late wife’s recipes for help.
“I remember it would be around Christmastime and my wife would make a couple of these sweets to have with our tea. We spent 30 years together and never had a problem,” he said.
The desserts went down a treat, securing Nicholas victory at this crucial stage of the competition.
And when Chef Letizia Vella told Nicholas that his wife would have been very proud of him had she been able to try them herself, the victorious chef broke down in tears, and was embraced by judge Joe Vella.
“I really miss her. When you’re loved, you feel the loss a lot,” Nicholas said.
Last night’s episode saw a double elimination, with Ian and fan favourite Francesco both exiting the competition after underperforming on the day.
Four chefs – Nicholas, Christina, Andrew, and Florina – now remain.
