‘To This Day, We Remain Without An Answer’: Beloved Tech Show Gadgets Removed From TVM Schedule After 14 Years

One of Malta’s most beloved shows on TV will not be returning for another season, with its director and presenter opening up about the decision which axed the 14-year-old show.
“Today marks the beginning of a fresh TV schedule, typically a time filled with excitement for me,” Rachel Cachia wrote. “However, after more than a decade of hosting Gadgets, I must bid farewell. Regrettably, PBS has decided that Gadgets no longer fits into the TVM schedule.”
“They have chosen to create a new in-house tech program, leaving us out of the equation. To this day, we remain without an answer as to why this decision was made.”
“Gadgets was born some fourteen years ago, coinciding with the launch of the iPhone, thanks to the vision of Justin Camilleri Dyer,” Cachia continued. “Its initial purpose was to inform the public about the latest tech trends. Later, when we joined forces with VSQUARED and operated under the guidance of Tina Zee we recognised that our audience desired both education and entertainment. This is precisely what we achieved with Gadgets, providing a platform for people to easily comprehend technology and offering reviews of the most innovative products on the market.”
“The work on Gadgets taught me a lot and opened doors to new opportunities and for that I will always look back at this experience very fondly,” the director-presenter continued. “As they say, all good things must eventually come to an end. I suppose that’s the way life goes – change is bound to happen. Over the past eighteen months, I’ve certainly learned a thing or two about dealing with change.”
“I also believe that when one door closes, others tend to open. With that in mind, I eagerly anticipate the new opportunities that will come my way.”
“I’d like to extend my heartfelt well-wishes to my fellow colleagues, including producers, TV presenters, and crew, as they embark on this new TV schedule,” Cachia concluded. “Their passion and role in providing entertaining, innovative and impartial programmes is one that should be appreciated. In bocca al lupo!”
Cachia’s status has already received a number of reactions by fans of the show, with some even going so far as to call the decision a “sad moment for tech lovers”.
