In a story post to Instagram, Ben Camille suggested Maltese television switching to English to cater to the increasing foreign population living in Malta.
With reality TV shows taking over Malta’s TV scene, Camille has been met with an influx of “more foreigners [that] seem to want to watch local television.”
The foreign population in Malta is definitely increasing, and with that comes a change in demographic, and the opportunity to attract a new audience, which would have a definite benefit on the television industry in Malta.
“Increasingly, I’m meeting a lot more foreigners who seem to want to watch local television…this can be due to different circumstances, it could be that these foreigners have been here longer so, rightly so, they’re becoming part of the community and they’re taking an interest into local television, social media, it could be because of franchise shows like Family Feud which attract foreigners to watch local television but they fact of the matter is they keep asking me, can it be in English because we can’t understand anything of what you’re saying,” Camille said on his stories.
Asking him if the shows could be run in English, Camille is definitely listening and is curious to see what the Maltese population think, Local and Foreign.
