Watch: ‘I Deserved To Leave’: Pia Opens Up About MasterChef Malta Elimination
Pia Pellegrini Petit, who was the youngest MasterChef Malta finalist and last female contestant standing, admitted that she “deserved to go home” after being eliminated during yesterday’s episode.
“It wasn’t a MasterChef-worthy dish,” she said, referring to her apple challenge dessert, adding that while “it’s very sad” that she had to leave, “it was the right decision for [her] to go home”.
“Seriously, that was not my best work at all – a disaster!“, she exclaimed in an Instagram story.
Commenting on her final MasterChef dish, an apple scone, Pia described it as a “big disaster” and told her followers that in the coming days she will be releasing a video of what she would have “actually done as that apple dessert”.
Talking about her MasterChef journey, Pia said that “as much as there was a lot of hate, there was also a lot of love and support.”
“If you’re interested in applying for season two, I really suggest it because it helps you grow not only as a person, but also as a chef,” she continued.
After no contestant was eliminated during last week’s episode, Pia wasn’t the only contestant to leave the MasterChef Kitchen yesterday, with Sam Zammit also having to big the competition farewell.
After a daunting pork challenge, where the contestants were asked to cook a cut of their choice, as well as another one assigned by the judges, dentist Nicolas Bezzina became the first semifinalist after impressing the judges with his dish yesterday evening.
This was Nicolas’ fourth time at the gallery, where after making the best dish of the challenge, he was safe from the subsequent elimination challenge.
The elimination challenge involved a massive mystery box which unveiled a bunch of apples.
“An apple a day keep the elimination away,” Chef Victor Borg said, explaining that the home cooks could use any apples of their choice to make their dish.
Ultimately, Sam’s apple tart and Pia’s scone failed to impress the judges and both ended up packing their bags and leaving the MasterChef kitchen.
The judges told Sam, who from the very beginning had always been a clear front-runner, that his dish was not up to par.
“I think it’s going to be a close call between David and Nicolas,” Sam said in his exit interview.
The competition, which started at about 1,000 applicants primarily, has now reached the semifinal phase, with Nicolas, David, Ivan, and Ray George reaching this next stage.
Do you think Pia and Sam deserved to leave the competition?
