Watch: Malta Doubles As Palestine’s West Bank In Netflix Comedy’s Emotional Finale Set Days Before October 7th Attacks
A Netflix comedy’s emotional final episode heavily features Malta doubling as Palestine’s West Bank in the days leading up to the October 7th attacks… and even features a Maltese actress.
Already being dubbed “one of the most hilarious, heart-rendering shows on TV”, the second and final season of Mo was released last Thursday, featuring the titular Mohammed “Mo” Amer’s character flying back to Palestine to connect with his family’s roots.
Right from Episode’s 8 starting moments, Malta takes centre stage as a fictional version of Burin, a Palestinian village in the northern West Bank. But as the situation between Jewish landlords and Arab families looks too flowery, we quickly realise it’s just a dream sequence, with Mo and his family still on the plane ride back.

Malta gets even more representation thanks to Kaylie Magri who went from X Factor Malta to a strict Israeli-Spanish customs officer. Two other Maltese artists, Nathan Brimmer and Anton Saliba, also feature in the episode, with more locals forming part of the crew – Beppe Abela was in fact the first assistant director of the Malta Unit.
“So grateful to have been part of Mo Season 2,” Kaylie wrote on Facebook last week. “A beautifully written story, go watch it now!”
We get to see more of the islands during Mo’s drive back to his family’s house which he visits mere days before the 2023 attacks which radically changed Palestine’s trajectory as decades-long conflict between Hamas and Israel escalated into a deadly and destructive war.
