The 8 Types Of Maltese People When It Rains

Article Featured Image

With the Maltese Islands finally starting to see some rain, it’s time for most people to leave the hotter, sunnier season behind and ease back into their winter personas.

As the skies get greyer and rains starts pouring down, these are the seven different types of Maltese people you’re bound to bump into. And yes, that includes you.

1. The ones still in summer mode denial

Sure, we’re not experiencing subzero temperatures and week-long hailstorms any time soon, but that doesn’t mean a thunderstorm is an acceptable time to go swimming.

Also, whether you like it or not, this should not really be surprising weather for this time of the year.

2. The ones out in thick jackets and five layers

You know what they say, “jew nej jew maħruq”.

People are either out in t-shirts, shorts and flip-flops in the pouring rain, or they’re taking the opportunity to go full ‘Siberia in December’ on everyone… even though the temperature is still in the mid-20s.

3. The Facebook news-breakers

What on Earth would we do without these guys?

Do you know how everyone has a window or at least some sort of contact to the outside world? Well, these people seem to forget that very simple fact, because they’ll be the first logging on to Facebook to post, “OMFG IT IS CURRENTLY RAINING OUTSIDE!”

You know, just in case they’re the first people to break the news to everyone else.

4. The people who remember “the worst flooding in Malta, without a doubt”

Could’ve been 1973, could’ve been 2016.

The point is you don’t have to worry or make such a big deal out of this particular spell of bad weather, because these people remember what was definitely the worst storm in Malta. And they will bring it up. Constantly.

“Aw, kont weħilt l-Imsida u l-ilma tela’ sat-tieqa!”

5. “It’s xitting guys hehehe”

Get it?

Because rain is xita in Maltese, and it kind of sounds like shit?

So it’s raining, but it also sounds like shitting?

Haha. Get it?

6. “Winter is Coming <3 <3”

An off-shoot of the “xitting” gang mixed with the Facebook news-breakers, these people will take this opportunity to remind everyone that Game of Thrones is a popular show which they too watch.

And hey, “Winter is Coming” might get 60,400,000 search results on Google, but for all they know, they could be the very first people making the connection between Westeros and the real world. Riiight.

7. The ones who refuse to function

Sure, Malta might famously enjoy 300+ days of sunshine every year, but when it does rain, some people just refuse to do anything. And that could be anything from showing up to work to visiting their nanna.

8. The all-out batshit crazy

There always has to be a couple of these whenever there’s a storm.

Let’s hope people learned their lesson from last year’s award-winning storm fails.

Which one of these are you? Let us know in the comments and tag someone who’s definitely one of these people!
