The 8 Worst Kinds Of Sunburns You Can Get In Malta

Article Featured Image

Everyone who’s stayed on the beach for a little too long knows just how painful a sunburn can be. But when you live on an island that’s basically always sunny, you don’t need to be by the sea to end up red AF.

1. The driver’s burn

It may not be as sexy as the other items in your glove compartment, but it’s not a bad idea to carry a small tube of sunscreen to apply to your right arm. The other option is risking an elbow-only sunburn from being stuck in traffic during Malta’s summer. If you’re really unlucky you’ll be rocking a matching thigh patch sunburn too.

2. The time-lapse burn

Your Għadira power-nap was inevitable. The crashing waves lulled you to sleep under the shade of your colourful umbrella. But it’s not long before basic physics creeps up to screw you over, and as the sun travels across the sky, suddenly your calves are not as sheltered as you thought. You awake to a burning sensation on the back of your legs. Congrats, you’ve officially been time-lapse burned.

3. The flip-flop burn

You’ve taken every precaution against the sun; you’re wearing a massive floppy hat and you’re covered in sunblock – but who the hell puts sunblock on their feet? People who’ve experienced the tragedy that is a flip-flop burn, that’s who.

4. Or its uglier cousin, the Croc burn

Just another reason to avoid being seen with them in public.

5. The Perf burn

Sure, your snapback makes you look really cool, but the unfortunate burn that comes with wearing a hat for fashion, not for function is not even close to worth it.

6. The shades burn

What an ironic name indeed. Remember kids; the only thing they’re shading is your eyes. The rest of your face is a burn-risk (and terrible tan) waiting to happen.

7. The bad friends burn

From their names or hand-prints to a massive penis all along your back. Make sure to pick a trustworthy friend to spread the sunblock on your back.

8. The Maltese flag burn

All forms of clothing-related tans fall under this one. From the bikini burns to the tank top tan, at least you’re being patriotic while repping the stark contrast between your pasty white skin and painful sunburn.

And if you’re wondering what your go-to should be this summer, why not go for Organii?

Here’s why

  • It’s better for the skin because it’s a mineral sunblock and not a chemical one, which means it has an immediate effect (chemical sun blocks require 30 minutes after application before being effective)
  • It can also be used on children from birth, so it’s great for the whole family
  • Their easy-to-apply formula leaves no white marks and it quickly absorbs by the skin
  • It’s colouring- and fragrance-free which makes its perfect for people with sensitive skin and skin conditions
  • It’s certified organic and vegan
  • It has both UVA + UVB protection

Like all sunscreens, make sure to re-apply every couple of hours to ensure it continues to do its job.
