NnG Promotion‘s Rock ‘N Malta has been confirming a couple of big headliners over the last few weeks. This weekend will see Bob Marley’s old band The Wailers performing at Aria, with the Italian metal-emo band Lacuna Coil announced for later in November. Now, another name has just been confirmed for next month… and it’s surprisingly big.

The Swedish rock band have been around since the early 90s, but it was during the early 2000s’ garage rock revival that the five-piece rose to prominence. And while some people out there might still be a little unsure whether they’ve heard of The Hives before, we’re sure a quick run through of their three colossal hits will rekindle the Naughties Nostalgia.

Their second studio album Veni Vidi Vicious welcomed the year 2000 with Hate To Say I Told You So, The Hives’ first proper invasion of MTV and every radio station around the world. Other tracks off the album like Main Offender and Die, All Right! made it all the way to popular PlayStation games and even featured in the 2002 Tobey Maguire Spiderman film, but this was just the beginning for the sharply-dressed Swedes with an attitude.

The Hives quickly followed up their 2000 album with two big ones in 2003 and 2007, Tyrannosaurus Hives and The Black & White Album. The former had the hit single Walk Idiot Walk, a veritable success in international charts which lead to The Hives being awarded the Best International Band and Best Dressed Band awards at the 2003 NME Awards and the MTV Best Music Video award in 2005.

A whole seven years after their breakout second album, The Hives came back with Tick Tick Boom, a track which quickly appeared everywhere. Soon, the catchy, bouncy hit took the spotlight during Nike adverts, films like Jumper, TV Series like Jericho, and also featured as the official theme song for the 2007 WWE Survivor GamesOther tracks on The Black & White Album also rose to prominence, and The Hives continued to be hailed as one of the most popular bands of the decade.

If there’s one thing everyone says about The Hives’ long and prolific career, it’s their energy during live performances. For the last decade and a half, they’ve been winning awards like Best Live Act at the Swedish Grammis.

The Swedish rockers have been acclaimed by music critics as “one of the best live rock bands in current music“, and have performed alongside some of the biggest acts in the world. And don’t think they’re going to let a decade between their most famous hits stop them from taking the word by storm; up till a couple of years ago, they were rocking New York’s Madison Square Garden alongside pop-punk princess Pink.

The Hives announced their first appearance in Malta yesterday, following it up with a cheeky #FirstTimesACharm. Popular Maltese indie acts Beangrowers and NoSnow/NoAlps will be supporting the Swedish legends, something which the local musicians definitely won’t be forgetting any time soon. “A dream come true!” announced NSNA frontman Nick Morales of the event, with many other musicians and fans alike still not quit believing this latest booking.

The Hives will be rocking Aria Complex on the 29th of September. Tickets are already selling fast online and more information can be found on the official Facebook event page.
