Malta’s time to really shine is undisputedly its summers, but between thousands of people descending onto its gorgeous beaches and some old (and horrible) habits, it’s very likely you’ll run into some disgusting shit… literally.

These are the most disgusting things you’ll (sadly) run into on a Maltese beach this summer, from slightly cringey to straight up horrible.

10. Brushing up against a piece of seaweed

Sure, it’s not out of place in the sea, but that still won’t stop you from cringing a bit when you brush up against a piece.

9. Floating food wrappers

It only takes about three seconds after seeing one of these to start thinking about someone else’s wet food.

8. So much sunblock in the sea you can barely see underwater

A pair of goggles might help, but then you remember your whole body is exposed to a whole beach’s worth of random people’s sunblock.

7. A suspiciously warmer patch of sea

That can only mean one thing, but you tell yourself it could also be down to some rare occurrence in underwater currents… or yourself.

6. A dead fish

Fish are already slimy as it is, and while dead ones are obviously a very common sight at your local supermarket, it’s all about that context.

5. Naked children

It’s simple: children can be very cute. Naked, crying, sunblock smeared children not so much.

4. Sea slime

Let’s hope we don’t get a repeat of last summer’s disgusting episodes, because sea slime is just downright disgusting.

3. People just straight up having sex

We’re not being prudes here. Sex is good. Sex is awesome. But sex in the sea in front of everyone? Please.

2. A shrivelled up, used condom

You know what’s worse than people just having sex in front of everyone in the sea? The shrivelled up remains they leave behind.
