There’s A Special Maltese Treat On Board New Australia-UK Direct Flight

Article Featured Image

The first ever direct flight between the UK and Australia launched this week, and there was a notable Maltese presence on board. That’s right, the humble pastizz made it onto the business class menu of the historic flight launched by Australia’s national airline Qantas, only not in the way Maltese people know it. The ones on offer on the Qantas flight are rather gourmet ones, filled with ricotta, spinach and onions, and with tomato and chilli relish.

Some 175,000 Maltese people live in Australia, and pastizzerias have popped up across the country – including in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

The new flight between Perth and London Heathrow covers a whopping 14,1498km in  17 hours and 20 minutes, making it the second longest flight in the world – right after the 18-hour flight between Qatar Airways flight between New Zealand and Qatar.
