Summer will officially begin in a few weeks’ time. And with enough sun in Malta to go around for everyonee, we’ve compiled a list of things you to do during this hot season.

Here’s how it works. This bucket list has 31 activities you can do. That means you’ve got something for any summer day. Ready to get busy?

1. Have a proper BBQ pig out

Have a beachy BBQ at one of these amazing locations with your buddies, or go old school at your own house. Eat until your body literally hurts or until you can no longer move. Nobody will judge you.

Cook some amazing food and stuff your friends with amazing sausages.

2. Watch a proper Maltese sunset

When was the last time you sat down and properly watched the sunset? No phones, no distractions, nothing?

Go ahead and pick a cool spot where you can wind down and enjoy one of the most underrated daily events in human history ever.

3. Enjoy a village feast

Have you been to the festa? You really should.

Festi are the most Maltese thing you can ever do this summer, so why not enjoy a super energetic marċ, feast on those amazing dishes and scream your heart out?

4. Play an outdoorsy game of tombla

Tombola nights are organised weekly in most towns and villages around the island.

They’re generally attended by die-hard super tough women who are in it for the win, so take this game seriously. Hell hath no fury like a tombla woman scorned.

5. Have some canoe fun

You’ve always want to do it, but now’s the chance.

Canoe riding is a rewarding experience which will bring out the explorer in you. You can visit secluded beaches, private caves and even hang out in the open-ish sea. Don’t forget your sunblock though.

6. Spend a day at Comino

Enjoy a day at our lovely, smaller sister island. No, not Gozo, the even smaller sister.

You can explore the land all you want or just chill out in one of its pretty beaches. Grab your day bag and leave. What’s stopping you? Yourself, that’s who.

7. Organise a night picnic

Organise a cheesy night picnic with your friends. You surely won’t be disappointed as the heat won’t be unbearable, especially now that September’s coming.

It’s also a great idea to enjoy hikes in this heat, as the sun wouldn’t be out at the time, obviously.

8. Have a full day at the beach

Enjoy a relaxing day at the beach. Not an hour, a whole day.

Take a book and ample amounts of snacks to soak up some sun. It’s ok, you’ll probably never ever go again for a whole month, we all know how much you hate the sun.

10. Watch a firework show

Fireworks are all the rage.

11. Stargaze your night away

Stargazing is one of the most chill summer events ever.

If you’re looking for a quiet and magical night, go ahead and lie down underneath the beautiful Maltese skies. There are numerous spots you can visit which will totally leave you flabbergasted.

12. Attend a music festival

Summer season is festival season on this island.

There’s something for everyone every couple of weeks, so you won’t really be having a problem finding one of these. Events, events everywhere.

13. Get lost in a local village

Malta is a hub for quaint villages and pretty town squares.

14. Do your bit for the environment

Numerous cleanups are organised on am almost weekly basis. You can do your good deed, socialise and make Malta prettier all at the same time. Talk about being efficient.

A number of organisations do hella good when it comes to local cleanups, so go ahead and keep yourself updated with their regular posts.

15. Attend an outdoor film screening

You could hunt down Magna Żmien or spot a cool solar cinema. Either way, there’s something super rewarding about watching a movie under the night skies.

Most of these are generally hosted in public gardens or pjazez and they will definitely surprise you with their amazing screening choices.

16. Have some well deserved alone time

17. Spend the day at a hawker’s market

Attend one of Malta’s many quirky markets.

There’s literally one suq a day for you to enjoy every week, and who knows? You might find some super cool treasures hidden there somewhere.

 

18. Visit a cool garden

Malta prides itself in having small gardens where you can chill out and enjoy your sandwich or knitting or whatever it is you enjoy doing.

20. Learn how to dive

21. Go to the theatre

22. Visit a bunch of museums

Seriously, the amount of museums we have on this island is phenomenal.

There’s so much to see that it will take you more than a day. There’s one museum for everyone, even if you really hate museums. We’re not joking. You should check some of them out.

23. Eat a Maltese ħobża by the sea

Nothing screams Maltese more than enjoying a proper ħobża with ġbejniet by the sea.

There’s just something almost ritualistically purifying about eating this divine meal as you pensively look out into the horizon.

 

24. Visit some of our cool forts

We wrote an extensive guide to forts a while back, and if you’ve read it, we suggest you get familiar with those cool structures we have all over the island.

26. Ride a luzzu like a badass

You can’t say that you’ve experienced Malta until you’ve ridden a luzzu. And you should be ashamed of yourself if you’re Maltese and have never ridden one. Shame on you.

Enjoy a sexy luzzu ride from Valletta to Birgu or befriend a hot luzzu sailor for a ride. We won’t judge you.

27. Explore Mdina properly

Explore Mdina like a real tourist, go crazy running around town eating cakes, overdosing on coffee and admiring buildings are taking photos of every single thing you lay eyes on.

28. Visit the National Aquarium

29. Volunteer for a great cause

Everyone has a cause they feel strong about, so why not volunteer to help out just a tiny bit? You could dog walk, help others in need or clean out cat kennels.

30. Visit the nicest churches on the island

This will definitely take more than a day, however picking only three or four would not be a bad idea.

If you love art, churches are a definite must see. Most of them are full of masterpieces which will totally impress you.

31. Have a well-deserved break

Take a well-deserved break and book a weekend in one of the island’s luxurious Airbnbs.
