These Two Work Mates Are Definitely Winning The Daily Commute Game In Malta
For many people in Malta, the daily commute to work is not only dull, but an extremely frustrating routine that can make or break your mood for the rest of the day.
But for two people, Carlos and Victor, this is definitely not the case. These two coworkers have taken their daily commute to a whole new level; kayaking.
No doubt, their switch was inspired by Malta’s traffic jams, and, apparently, multiple traffic tickets. The two friends work at Betsson in Ta’ Xbiex, and since they live in Sliema, they decided to beat the hustle and bustle of the promenade by taking to the waters of Marsamxett instead.
“I used to be stuck in traffic back in Madrid quite frequently and couldn’t bear the fact that in Malta it seemed to be even worse sometimes,” Carlos said. “We also thought it would be awesome to be able to kayak to work ‘just because we can’, which definitely added to the fact.”
Work seems to have also been instrumental in this decision. “Betsson started this initiative called ‘The Training Challenge’ which encourages us to exercise for eight weeks, so it definitely inspired us.”
Planning for a complete change in commute is not difficult as it might seem. “Logistically, it’s very easy,” Carlos explained. “Pump up the kayak from the pier, kayak for 35 minutes to Ta’ Xbiex, take a shower at the office and you’re ready to work!”
The guys are definitely planning to not have this be a one-time thing. “Not only do we plan to do it as frequently as we can, but we are also encouraging some colleagues from the office to join us in the initiative. And we seem to be getting positive feedback so far!”
While the idea itself is amazing and definitely helps the pair instantly wake up fresh and energized on a weekday morning, there’s one other obvious perk to all of this that is sure to instantly make anyone’s daily commute a thousand times better; check out those early morning views!
