If you’re still a big fan of radio, then there’s really only one place to be this week, and it’s our very own capital city.

For its ninth edition, the International Radio Festival has come to Malta to celebrate local on-air influencers, their production teams and some of the biggest names from around the world. As expected, there will be a bunch of events for this year’s festival, with more than 80 unique music radio shows broadcasting to a worldwide audience from the gorgeous surroundings of Valletta’s St. Elmo.

Everyone from BBC Radio 1 and Rai Radio 3 to Ibiza Sonica Radio and Australia’s KISS FM will be connecting to the same mixer over the next week in Valletta

After this morning’s official kick-off – which saw 89.7 Bay’s Daniel and Ylenia broadcast their daily breakfast show from the capital – the IRF is set to continue taking the island – and the rest of the world – by storm until the 4th of November. Local figures like Arthur Caruana, Colin Fitz, Dorian Cassar, Amber Bondin and Carlo Borg Bonaci are all set to make an appearance, along with some of the biggest names in the biz.

Local radio stations will be brought together for this event in order to allow listeners and visitors the chance to, in the words of the festival “listen to how the world sounds.” And thanks to the inclusion of so many international stations, it really is set to be a celebration of the world’s sounds.

On Halloween Wednesday, for example, Swiss radio Kasheme will join the event with a broadcast featuring Rumi, J’peux, and SoulMate. The 1st of November, on the other hand, will be reserved for an audio conference at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, where global audio and music industries will be discussed by both local and foreign speakers.

Speakers at the conference include everyone from BBC’s Paul Smith, to superstar composer and producer David Lowe. Oh, and there’s also going to be The Human League’s very own Martyn Ware sharing his expertise on the world of sound.
