7 Events That Will Help You Beat Malta’s Heat This Weekend
Calling all music lovers and booty shakers; this weekend in Malta is definitely for you.
With a generous helping of parties and gigs going down in the next three days, here are seven events you need to check out if you were planning on breaking in your dancing shoes this weekend.
Friday 10th August
1. A Tokyo-based musician charms an intimate crowd in Sliema
Quirky, clever and lighthearted, Andy Burns will be bringing his Tokyo-polished tracks to Sliema’s Hole In The Wall ahead of the lo-fi extravaganza that is BEWYLD Festival later in September.
Be still, our beating hearts.
2. A six-hour DJing marathon featuring some of Malta’s finest
MATO is a big name in the Maltese clubbing scene, and his On the MOve sessions at the newly-opened Mute Club are proving to be a raving success.
Following an awesome session featuring Leo Pol, this week’s edition sees another one of the island’s heavyweights, Owen Jay, join Mato for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; an intense, six-hour marathon.
3. Malta’s premier gay promoters are joined by some big international names
Lollipop have been organising some of the best gay bashes in Malta for the last year on a monthly basis. Now, they’re pushing things even further with a little help from some big names in the biz.
Daddy Issues will be joining this Friday’s Tigullio party for a night of great music, great (and probably very revealing) outfits, and… well, some deep-set daddy issues!
Saturday 11th August
4. A night of groove in Valletta
A couple of months ago, an event called Tal-Ostja showed up on Facebook. The event turned out to be a long night of playful, groovy music by some of the island’s most active musicians in the jazz scene.
Now, it’s time for round two, this time happening at Valletta’s Offbeat.
Featuring Kyle Drakard, Daniel Sant, Dean Montanaro and special guests Mark Harrison and Ricky.
5. The Return of Malta’s Classic Rock Supergroup
It’s been four years since Xirka Rock ran local fans through classic rock’s heydays with an anthem or seven.
Now, it all starts again, this time featuring five star singers joining the core band at Paradise Exiles. Oh, and it’s all absolutely free.
Sunday 12th August
6. A daytime party by the beach featuring local craft beer and some sweet-ass grooves
?Stretta Craft Beer?, OTR’s Nicky Slim, Bump’s Patman, and Sunset Records’ Brian. All together, at Sliema’s Surfside Beach Club. Sounds good? Of course it does.
This Sunday marks the first edition of the Stretta Sessions, glorious sunny afternoons of soulful house, funk and disco. And fresh brews, of course!
7. A chilled end to the weekend with a vinyl night in Bu?ibba
Ambient, electronica, nu jazz, deep house, Balearic dub, lounge, soul house, eclectic jazz… Sequenchill & Friends have got it all, and the fourth edition of this summer’s weekly session sees three local tastemakers take to the decks for a special Vinyl Edition.
Sequenchill will take care of the sunset, Brian James will take care of dusk, and Geoffrey Grima will take care of the rest of the night. Consider yourself chilled to the max.
