Christmas is a time for joy and giving. It’s also a time where we should all cleanse ourselves from social guilt, and admit that all we want to do is spend time on your sofa watching Christmas films.

So here’s a list of Christmas films that will please every kind of person who’s dodging spending time with other people.

1. Edward Scissorhands

It’s the quirkiest yet most heart-warming story you’ll watch this Christmas. And we all can relate to those annoying neighbours coming round to the house to check out who the new guest is… #villagegossip

2. The Holiday

It’s super romantic without being cringeworthy. And let’s face it – who doesn’t need two hours of Jude Law at Christmas? No one.

3. Carol

The most beautifully shot film from 2015, this is perfect if you’re looking for a Christmas film with substance. Also – stunning performances from Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson and Rooney Mara. Yes, please.

4. Home Alone

This is a classic for anyone who grew up in the 90s in Malta. We all wanted to be Kevin Mcallister, left alone at home to his own devices. The hilarity that ensues for the duration of the film will having you cracking up in nostalgic laughter.

5. Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas

Stop-motion, dark fantasy, Disney, musical. Should we say more?

6. Die Hard

You’ve been shopping, your brain is fried, you are not able to compute anything beyond a mindless action flick. Die Hard is the answer. Chock-a-block with zinging dialogue and hilarious żinnati, this film is perfect for a relaxing night in. If nothing else you get to watch the late, great Alan Rickman is all his villainous glory.

7. Bridget Jones’ Diary

This one is perfect if you want to feel like you’re not alone. We’re not talking about the sequel or even the threequel (not a word), we’re talking original, pole-gliding, Hugh Grant in a wet shirt, endlessly relatable Bridget. Just don’t be inspired to make out with anyone in your pants in the middle of the road – Great Auntie Ċetta lives like two doors away and she sees everything…
