Winter is here, and rainy days are now becoming a frequent thing in Malta. Some of us just love the hazy feel those days put us in, however others hate it with a passion. Especially when the infamous power cuts start happening more frequently #ThunderProblems

Gone are the days of desperate boredom and emotional downpours. Lovin Malta is here to set the mood for an amazing rainy day. You’re welcome.

1. Bake some goods

Everyone loves cake.

It’s the best creation ever and we’re happy to have cake on an internet-free day. Go through your ma’s recipe books and find a lovely recipe to test out.

You could go ahead and bake some indulgent brownies, a sticky upside-down cake or a plain old Nutella sponge. Heavenly.

2. Wine is now your new best friend

It’s rainy and there’s no power. Chances are that you’re all alone, so why not crack open that bottle of wine you’ve been saving and learn a new craft?

And by new craft what we really mean is clean out that forgotten area behind your fridge.

Or maybe learn how to draw. Who knows? Maybe you’re harbouring a budding artist deep within your soul without even knowing.

3. Let the games begin

If you’re in a group, you should whip out your collection of boardgames. If you’re alone on the other hand, a good old game of solitaire is your ultimate rainy day buddy.

All you need is a pack of cards and your brain. You might end up playing for hours on end without even noticing.

4. Books are also a pretty cool thing to stare at

Books are your ultimate BFF when it comes to boring days. Let yourself be transported to some amazing worlds and fantasies through glued-up paper.

Nothing will make you forget how sad the rain is making you feel like a really immersive book. Here’s some cool books you should get your hands on, just in case you don’t know where to start.

5. Impress everyone with some divine dishes

Now’s your chance to try your hand at cooking the perfect Maltese meal.

Here’s some lovely recipes you should try out, and before saying “But I wouldn’t have any internet if the power is out istra,” just write it down in a notebook. Plan ahead.

6. Do something for charity

OK, so not exactly for charity, more like for your own sanity.

Get a couple of large bags and look through all the items of clothing you own. If there are things which you haven’t worn in over a year and aren’t planning to either, stuff them neatly in bags.

Take them over to a charity shop when the sun comes out. Not only will you be helping a good cause, but you’ll also be freeing up space for new outfits. Yes.

7. Take care of your skin

Why not plan out a spa day? Just place some scented candles around your bath and fill it up with oils and foams.

Immerse yourself and apply a nice sheet mask on your beautiful face. The whole experience will make you feel like a new you in no time.

If you’re someone who gets bored easily in the bath, you could always take that bottle of wine and a good book with you. Go ahead, try it out.

8. Build your own kick-ass fort

No we’re not even joking.

You can build a complex pillow fort for you and your SO and spend the rest of the day chilling out on those soft covers. Pillows, chairs, sheets, duvets and covers can all be used for this ambitious endeavour. You can also devour that cake you baked earlier. Nobody will judge you, promise.
